Nine-to-Five

Oil, 16x20

A 9-to-5 desk job is hard for everyone, but especially for this guy, who is just trying to support his beetle family. I got the idea after seeing a real beetle holding a pencil and “drawing” with it.

I thought, “What if a beetle had to work a desk job?”

My goal with this piece was to depict a common situation with a comical twist. The cartoonish beetle and huge pencil add humor, while the cool grey tones of the piece create a contrasting boring mood that may be expected in an office.
